I painted my first World of Warcraft miniature, Thrall, after 16 years of playing Alliance. The big challenges were fixing his skin, which first came out looking like Shrek, and trying a leather-aging technique for the first time.

Why did you paint a Horde character if you play Alliance?
I've played Alliance for 16 years, but I couldn't find a single Alliance character I wanted to paint, so I went with the Horde and picked Thrall.
What went wrong with Thrall's skin?
I got it wrong the first time and he looked like Shrek, so I had to fix it.
Did you try any new techniques on this miniature?
Yes. I saw a technique for aging leather and tried it for the first time. I was worried that if I got it wrong, the leather would look like bottles of orange soda.
Did the finished Thrall look right?
Not perfect, but I think he kind of looks like vanilla Thrall.
